We monitor each student's progress and provide additional learning support if this is required.
Our school uses learning programs and specialised staff where needed and we work in partnership with parents and carers to assist students who have special learning needs.
Our school is committed to working with Aboriginal parents and community members in developing personalised plans for our Aboriginal students.
Learning and Support Teacher
The Learning & Support Teacher at School of the Air is Bridget Burke.
Her role is to identify and assess students experiencing difficulties in learning. She plans, implements, monitors and evaluates programs for students and builds the capacity of teachers to support students with a diverse range of learning needs.
In working collaboratively with school executive, classroom teachers and parents, Bridget provides support through team teaching, support, advice and training and development with other teachers. She also provides withdrawal for assessment, withdrawal of students for short term intensive instruction and monitoring of progress and support for peer tutoring and other programs .
Supervisor sessions
The supervisors of the students are supplied with weekly sessions on satellite. The sessions may be a catch up with their class teacher or a session about a chosen topic.
This gives the teachers a chance to support the supervisor with their day to day teaching or give them the opportunity to learn how to teach certain concepts.
