Events

School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

Mini School

Once during the school year, teachers travel to a host station or alternate venue to conduct a Mini School. Families travel hundreds of kilometres to be with their teachers, classmates and fellow home supervisors for these occasions.

Mini Schools are usually hosted by school families. Pupils participate in a variety of academic, social and sporting activities. Special guests may also visit during this week.

Classroom experiences

Every year each class is given the opportunity to participate in a face-to-face classroom in Broken Hill. The classrooms are usually held at School of the Air in our classroom building.

The children spend the week interacting in classroom experiences with their class teacher.

Sports Week

In Term 2, students travel into town to join in classroom activities and participate in our annual Sports Day. At SOTA, we provide practice days where students can learn and prepare for each field event. The Sports Day is held over two days, with field events on the first day and track events on the following day.

This schedule allows students to showcase their skills during the Athletics Carnival and gives them the opportunity to compete at higher levels, including the Broken Hill Athletics Carnival, the Barrier Athletics Carnival, and the State PSSA Athletics Carnival.
